QB Play In Senior Bowl
John Parker Wilson had a good showing for the South team in the Senior Bowl. Got the start and led a 16-play, 80-yard TD drive...
went 4-6 on the drive, and hit two 3rd and long completions for 1st downs. And on 3rd and goal, he scrambled his way in for the TD. Shula and Del Rio bumped fists with him back on the sideline. They like him. JPW went 7-13-56 on 4 possessions. JPW manages the game really well. And that's a compliment. And guys make plays for him.
Pat White, the hometown man from the Mobile area, got a game-high 5 possessions at QB for the South. Pat throw a strike for a TD in the 3rd quarter---a go route to Mike Wallace for 39 yards. He sprinted with it 3 times for over 30 yards. Led 2 TD drives. The final tally: 4-10-95 yards, 1TD Critic and NFL Netword NFL Draft guru Mike Mayock stated that he believed the young man was hurting himself by being stubborn and not agreeing to run routes at WR. He's simply giving this his best shot at QB. Can understand that, can't you? Pat contiues to live the QB dream...good for him.
Cullen Harper also led a 1st half TD drive for the South. It was an 8-play, 59-yard TD drive. Cullen was 2-3 on the drive and hit a big play for 32 yards to Mike Thomas. Cullen only got one more possesion and did not play in the 2nd half. Why? Cullen was in the wrong place, at the wrong time...Home-Cookin' hurt him! You know, they had to put the 2 Alabama boys in there, with the game in Mobile. Harper helped himself this week. Threw it pretty good in practices, especially on Wednesday. This idea that the contro surrounding Bowden's firing would hurt him is not true. I spoke with Jimmy Sexton, Cullen's agent, and he told me that the topic was addressed by Cullen in INTVs with 12-14 NFL teams. Chalk it up to a lesson learned in who you can trust. No more, no less. Not a big deal.
Graham Harrell had a tough go of it. A lot of balls thrown in the intermediate area where worm-burners...skipping around the WRs feet. Mayock was very critical of his arm strength. His stock dropped this week. He did not resemble a guy that could be the 3rd QB taken.
Rhett Bomar and Nathan Brown looked bad taking 2 sacks each. Bomar folded up in his own end zone and fumbled away the ball for a TD. Brown looked a little over-matched to me.
What QB goes after Stafford & Sanchez? Most think Josh Freeman will earn that #3 spot, but stay tuned.
There are only 32 starting QB jobs out there. This year, there are around 6-8 teams looking for QB help. Overall, there are less than 100 QB jobs in the NFL. Good luck guys. Go for it. Hope you get a good opportunity somewhere. Don't give up the dream.
