How to Evaluate 5-Star HS WRs
There are some guys doubting Marlon Brown's playmaking ability at the next level. Something about the level of competition he was abusing in the Memphis area. Okay, I'll offer up a little Recruiting 101 for you dudes who think just because the DB he toasted runs a 4.7, Marlon won't be able to big things in college ball.
Question 1: Who are the guys making big plays in college? Answer: The same guys that were making plays in high school. Percy Harvin, A.J. Green, Eric Berry, etc. So this means something in evaluation. You don't see guys that were average in HS suddenly making guys miss and taking it the distance in college ball. A big-time player makes plays at every level, regardless of the competition.
Item 2: It's be ability to cut on a dime and accelerate that make guys special. Focus on this when you watch video...not how slow the HS DB is. A talented guy like Marlon reaches out, catches it with his strong hands, plants his foot quickly, makes a quick cut, and accelerates past the 2 DBs on to the EZ. That's special. How many 6'4" guys are doing that? Not many.
How many quality LBs/DBs did Herschel play against at Johnson County HS? Zippo. He was a big man that could cut and accelerate. Do you remember seeing video of Harvin coming out of HS? He made HS DBs miss whether they ran a 4.5 or a 4.8. Ask any big time recruiter or just trust me on this one. It's your choice.

That is classic Buck. Looks like I might have been reading some of the same stuff. I think another clue might be when a player is offered by USC, UF, LSU and UGA..that says enough for me.
