Glavine Could Play for Free

Imagine the positive PR that would come out of a story like this. What if Tom told the Braves he'd play for free this season? That would make headlines all over the baseball world. Glavine To Play For Free! Tom's Terrific! It would be the talk in MLB. The positive press that would come out of this would be huge.
Glavine could say he'd made enough money in his career. It's not about money. It's about finishing up a HOF career and doing it his way. Playing for the Braves at home. Wearing that Atlanta uniform one last time. Making a run at the postseason. Going out a winner. Giving fans one more year to remember. In fact, tell the Braves to use his money to go get Xavier Nady or Nick Swisher. Glavine to play for free.
That would be awesome. And totally unselfish. Bet this would win over those people who turned their back on Glavine when he signed with the Mets. Tom would be a hero. And the news would travel long and far. Years from now, fans would say, "Remember when Tom played for free?"
My numbers say Tom has made close to $100M the last ten years playing baseball. Quit haggling over $2/$3M with Fran Wren and shock the world. The publicity coming out of a story like this would allow Tom and cash in off the field. Imagine the endorsement opportunities that would roll in for years to come. Huge.
Announce at a press conference that you understand the economy is in the toilet. MLB is being pulled through the mud with all this steriod talk. The game has made you a rich man. It's not about the money now. It's about going out in style.
