Team Belue Goes Low

The Buck & Kincade Classic golf event was another success. Team Belue won for the 7th year in a row over Team Kincade, in our 4-man scramble, no handicap showdown, with no mulligans. This year Team Kincade posted an -11 score in the morning tee time. So, we knew the number prior to teeing off in the afternoon, at Royal Lakes. Kincade actually believed it was an advantage...posting an early score. Wrong.
Nick Cassini, a former Georgia All-American and Nationwide Tour vet, was our lead 'Dog, as he made his B & K tourney debue.  David Dukes, the best non-scholarship golfer on the east coast and former Bulldog football player, returned to help lead the way. Coach Mike Cavan was back for the 7th year and he thrives on all the Kincade smack talk that goes on leading up the the event. Coming off a putting lesson at the PGA Tour Superstore, I felt confident I could drain a few big putts along the way.
Cassini and Dukes put on a ball-striking show. They both pounded it off the tee. And when they needed to cut the corner, they could pound it both ways, with a fade or a draw. On Royal Lakes most-talked about hole, the island green Par 5, Dukes smoked his tee shot down the right side and bypassed the creek running across the fairway. We had 135 left to the green. Approach within 3 feet...easy eagle.Cassini was razor sharp with his iron play. We had a lot of "leaners" (horseshoe term used in golf for approach shots in the leather). Cavan and I contributed along the way, with a few approach shots and a couple of putts, but we just basically enjoyed the ride. I did rip the driver on the par 5 18th and set us up for the eagle opportunity (Cassini hit an iron from 205 to within 15 feet...Nick then ran in the eagle putt!
I'm just amazed at guys like Cassini (And Dukes), who can repeat that perfect swing over and over. The ball just jumps off the clubface, and then just appears to drop out of the sky. The smooth tempo rubs off. The scorecard read: 28 & 28 for a -16 score and a 5-shot victory. We had it on cruise control, after reaching -12 thru 12. The final tally: 3 eagles, 10 birdies and 5 pars.
Kincade waved the white flag at the turn, riding a maintainance cart. Fitting. This one was special. Heck, they are all special...
whipping up on Ole Kincade. Think I'll frame this group shot next to the scorecard, and send them a short video of all those putts dropping.
Nick Cassini: Follow the dream and get back out there on tour. We are pulling for you. Thanks for being apart of Team Belue for a day.
David Dukes: Cavan and I are amazed. You are the best football player/turned golfer we know. Thanks buddy.
Coach Cavan: You're the best competitor I know. Thanks for everything.
