Kevin Butler Finally Goes Low at Sugarloaf

It wasn't the course record, but the kicker from Redan High wrote down a strong 74 at Sugarloaf on Saturday. Kevin Butler, the College Football Hall of Fame placekicker from Georgia, has been playing this track for ten years now. And that 74 was his best score. And it was special.
Sugarloaf was playing dry and fast. The rough was deep, as in knee high. Because of the Senior Club Championship held later in the day, word at the range was the crew rolled the greens at the crack of dawn. Occasional gusty winds also complicated things. But Butler's game stood strong. He hit it long off the tee. The iron approach shots were laser-like. Kevin even ran in a few big putts along the way. A strong 74. That's a way to go, partner!
My wayward 85 was a bit ugly in comparison. Driver issues continue...hit it in the woods off the tee with the driver 3-4 times in the round. Other than that, I was proud of how my game held up. Good iron shots. Got up and down a couple of times. made a couple birdies. Hit a few solid drives. But those 4 shots in the woods translate to double bogey. Made triple on 18.
I road Butler all the way to the bank. He finally got Sugarloaf, and I was there to see it. And collect a few dollars on the way out the door. Now that was fun!
