SEC Media Day #3: The Best Day

Day 3 turned out to be the best day of the trip. Entertainment value through the roof. Spurrier and Kiffin had this place buzzing. And then, Les Miles wrapped it up with the biggest surprise of the day. Gene Chizik was doing the under the radar routine. It was a day for South Carolina, LSU, Auburn, and Tennessee to represent. And it was fun.
Spurrier took the stage first and immediately addressed the big story. Who left Tim Tebow off the Coaches Pre-Season All-SEC team? It was Spurrier. The ole ball coach stepped up the the microphone and explained himself. His Football Operations guy filled out the voting sheet and Coach Spurrier quickly approved it. It wasn't until later he realized that they voted Snead and not Tebow. Spurrier said he has never filled out the Pre-Season All-SEC sheet. But there was never this kind of omission. Steve asked the Football Op guy how this happened. He said he already had 10 Gators on the sheet, so he went Snead. Steve called up the SEC Office before showing up here and asked the vote to be changed. So, they did. Now it's a unanimous vote for Tebow. Steve apologized and it was over.
Kiffin was the only coach to hit radio row. Chizik did only a couple of Alabama stations but that was it. Spurrier and Miles never come to Radio Row. Coach Kiffin worked the room hard. Bounced around and answered all the questions. He gives off an aura of I already know all the football I need to know. Maybe it's just a coach-media thing. He does have Eric Berry and Dad on defense. That's reason to be confident.
Coach Miles was the surprise of the day because for the first time I was able to get a few minutes with him 1-on-1. He told me a story of growing up in Ohio and how he used to see this asphalt company working around town named Belue Asphalt. and he claimed there was a Buck Belue working fo them. Have to check into that. Les was very cordial.
