Bulldogs Gameplan to Start 2009

Change is good. In major college football, you don't want to be doing the same thing every season. It's okay to have a philosophy, but you've got to change it up according to your personnel. That's smart coaching. Otherwise you become too predictable. Opponent's like that.
Under Richt, the 'Dogs run a Pro-style offense. Multiple sets. This allows Coach Bobo to be flexible. For instance, against Oklahoma State he might use a heavy dose of the Shotgun 3 WR/1 RB set, to get after that inexperienced Cowboy secondary. Or against Carolina, maybe go heavy on the 2 TE/2 RB/1 WR set and attack with the run to minimize the effectiveness of a bunch of stunting and moving around. Find a weakness and go after it.
The flexibile nature of running a multiple set offense also allows a OC/Playcaller to attack with his weapons too. Get the ball to the playmakers, regardless of where they line up.
Let's say Orson Charles shows'm he's ready to get some time with the #1 Offense. Bobo can bring back some featured plays out of the TE package. Lord knows, they didn't use them last season (10 catches out of the TEs). Example: Play-action and get it to Charles running a middle route against Cover 2. Or flex him out, and use him in the short/intermediate passing game.
Or say Carlton Thomas earns some time at RB. Bobo will get him the ball with a dose of screen passes or short option routes.
Or how about in the red zone featuring both Green and Marlon Brown. Bobo could go 2 WR/2 TE/1 RB and let those two 6'5 weapons work downfield on undersized CBs.
The 'Dogs Offense really needs Orson Charles and Arthur Lynch to play some early, with Figgins out. Aron White needs some help. That's a hot spot...the TE position. Sounds like Israel Troupe is emerging at WR and could be that 3rd WR...which would help going into Stillwater. He's a third year guy. That might have Bobo sleeping a little better before the opener, than if he had to run some freshmen out there (Wooten) when he went to 3 WR. Freshmen in season openers is not a real comforting thought (missed assignments, blown plays).
Anyway, I love this Georgia offense. Richt/Bobo/Searels are smart coaches. They aren't stuck in an offense that limits where the ball goes and how it gets there. Plus, it helps players when they get an NFL shot.
