Mularkey's Falcons Offense is Dynamic
Big fan of what Coach Mularkey is doing with this Falcons offense. Mike is a believer in running the ball, but he knows all about throwing it around too. And that ability to do both makes them special. This group will be better than the one we pulled for last season. I'm convinced of it.
The 2009 Falcons offense specializes in power football. Pat Dye loves this. They can line up with a solid run blocking O-Line, one of the most physical fullbacks in the game (Ovie), and a TE (Gonzo) that can be a bully too. Plus, White, Jenkins, Finneran are physical out wide. And they hand it to a 260 pound Pro Bowl RB wenty-five times a game (Turner). It's tough to stop.
I was giving Mike Peterson (Falcons L
a little business about the #1 defense not being able to stop the #1 offense from running the ball one day at camp. Peterson told me that this was the top running attack in the NFL today. Nothing to be embarrassed about.
One play after playing power run, Mularkey can spread the field and throw it around, with a smart and talented Matt Ryan. Put him in the shotgun, with a 3 WR set, Gonzo at TE and Norwood at RB. Flex Norwood out wide. Now Ryan can pick'm apart with 5 receivers in the route. Tough to defend.
These two areas of offense are as different as night and day. Very few teams are capable of pulling this off. The Falcons can and will. I'm impressed. Roddy White is a thoroughbread racehorse in his prime. Ryan is improved over last year's rookie season. This offense is going to be causing a lot of problems because of its diversity.
