Richard Can Run Fast!

My first impression of Georgia RB Richard Samuel was "this is a hard-nosed football player." The few times he got the ball last season (28 touches on offense), Rich was looking to run downhill. He attacked the defensive player looking to tackle him. It looked like he wanted to punish the tackler. And that's one of the reasons he averaged 5.1 yards per carry. His plan is to take the football north and south. No dancing or prancing from this guy. And I liked it.
The sophomore from Cartersville/Cass HS was an All-State LB. So, that should tell you something about his makeup. He is a solid 220 lbs. with the pads on. Strong and fit. And he has earned the job during two-a-days. Richt, Bobo, and Searels want to run it and Richard Samuel is going to get a full load. This is a guy you can feel comfortable running between the tackles. And on pass plays, he is physical in pass protection.
But I must admit, I'm surprised at the big-play ability. His long run last season was 21 yards against Florida. Turns out, he has the speed to break it. When he gets in a footrace, he's probably gone. In the first scrimmage, Samuel busted a long run for a touchdown, and he galloped for a TD on a reception. Impressive.
Now I'm hearing Coach Richt thinks Richard Samuel might be the fastest RB he's had since he left Florida State. Faster than Knowshon. Faster than Thomas Brown. Faster than Kregg Lumpkin. Faster than Danny Ware. And faster than Musa Smith. What a pleasant surprise. Who doesn't like fast?
    And who was to know?
That Oklahoma State Cowboy defense might want to get it buckled on tight come September 5th. Here comes Richard Samuel with the ball in his hands...and he can run over you, and run past you. Might be a big coming out party for Rich.
