Can Puppies Deliver in Stillwater?
Richt doesn't mind throwing these young guys in there anymore. Coach'm up and get them in the game. Sure makes the team deeper. And this Georgia team is deep with young talent.
On offense, the 'Dogs will be giving at least 4 true freshman some playing time: Orson Charles and Arthur Lynch at TE, Rantavious Wooten and Marlon Brown at WR. And two redshirt freshmen will get some reps: Tavarres King and Carlton Thomas. That's six puppies in the mix and looking to make an impact.
On defense, freshman Branden Smith is playing in the nickel package at CB. Freshman LB Mike Gilliard (Valdosta High) and DT Abry Jones have also earned some limited time in the rotation. And freshman DE Montez Robinson might get some action too. That's four more freshmen getting a little time on defense. There are 5 more redshirt freshmen staring down some reps too... DE Cornelius Washington, LB Christian Robinson, and DBs Sanders Commings, Bacarri Rambo, and Makiri Pugh.
That's 15 young pups getting in the game. Richt quit worrying about them making mistakes and started focusing on a team with quality depth. It's an impressive group. And I didn't even mention some of the sophomores ready to rumble, like DeAngelo Tyson and Brandon Boykin on defense. And A.J. Green, Richard Samuel, Cordy Glenn, Ben Jones, Aaron White, Caleb King, and Israel Troupe are sophomores playing ball on offense.
Basicially, there are around 25 young Bulldogs taking the field on offense or defense in 2009. This has got to be one of the youngest teams in the Top 25.
