Rennie Curran Hunkers Down
It came down to one play. Win this play and you win the game. Lose the play and you lose the game. Fatigue has long set in. It's me versus you. Now roll the dice.
Rennie Curran vs. Stephen Garcia. They stared down each other. Saunders, South Carolina's massive tight end, was open in the end zone. The game hung in the balance. Seeing Curran between him and the end zone, Garcia elected not to try and run it. Who could blame him? It must have looked like an easy throw for the game-winner. Sneak the throw past Curran and the Gamecocks celebration could begin. As Corso would say, "not so fast my friend."
The ball came whistling and Rennie reached up quickly to deflect it. Saunders looked shocked. Garcia looked devestated. Coach Spurrier looked like he wanted to finally throw that visor. And the Bulldog nation cheered. Rennie Curran hunkered down and made the big play. It was the difference in winning and losing.
Curran has got to be the hardest-working, most dedicated player on the team. His fitness level and competitive spirit simply didn't allow Georgia to lose the game. It'll go down on the stat sheet as a PBU (pass break up) but it was the play of the game. Curran also had a career high 15 tackles. Bet Larry Munson was proud. This play is the stuff of legends. Sort of like that play Pollack made against these guys a few years back...beating the offensive tackle, ripping the ball away from the QB. Go ahead and edit this play next to that one. And the one Rennie had against South Carolina last year, when he put the hat on the ball and forced a Mike Davis fumble near the Bulldog goal line.
This guy is amazing. Rennie Curran looks like one of the best Georgia LBs ever.
