How About The Jackets Defense?
A lot of talk and concern about the Bulldogs defense coming into the Tech game. That's understandable. Paul Johnson's spread option attack is dangerous. Weapons everywhere. QB is operating at a high level. Star RB in Dwyer. Stud at WR in Thomas.
But lost in all that talk is the Georgia Tech defense. The good teams they've faced averaged 30 points a game. And remember ,the Bulldog offense scored 42 on them last season. Bobo attacked them with the passing game. 'Dogs got big play ,after big play. Georgia had 21 pass plays that went for over 10 yards, and 9 plays of over 20 yards. Bobo got receivers (including his R
out in open space and they got big yards after the catch. Screen passes got Moreno the ball in space.
The personnel is the same for GT in the secondary. I'd imagine Bobo will attack them again with the pass, trying to get big plays. He knows they will need points. Playing that time of possession game sounds like a good plan, but only if you can finish off drives with TDs. It'll take balance to score points. And expect Bobo to try and get his young playmakers the ball in space.
No A.J. Green hurts. No doubt about it. Tav King will have to take the lead role and he's capable. Orson Charles has been big too. Wooten has emerged as a playmaker. Those guys will need to deliver against Tech.
Morgan Burnett is the playmaker in the Tech secondary. Serious ball skills and a good tackler.
This looks like another high-scoring game to me.
