Ever Heard of Coach DeRuyter?
Air Force played some great defense this season. Just ask Houston. The Cougars and that big-name QB (Keenum) got 14 points and dude threw 6 interceptions in their bowl game loss to Air Force. Why does this matter here in Atlanta? The Air Force defensive coordinator might end up in Athens.
Kirby Smart was allowed to speak with the media out in Cally this weekend and he talked about how he looked forward to working with the Alabama players next season. Not what Georgia fans were hoping to read. Saban probably sent him out in front of the media to send this message. Coach Smart didn't say he wasn't interested in the Georgia job, but his comments sent a message. I'm staying in Tuscaloosa.
So, time to research Coach Tim DeRuyter.
DeRuyter is the Air Force DC. He's 46, a native of Long Beach, and a fiery red-head. He played LB at Air Force and has been their DC for the last 3 season's. Tim coaches defensive backs. Now, the good stuff.
This guy believes in an aggressive 3-4 scheme. Like the sound of that. DeRuyter is getting after offenses and quarterbacks. Check out the most important numbers this season for the Air Force defense: 15.7 points per game allowed (#11 CF) and 34 forced turnovers (#4 CF). This is a guy that is focused on pressuring and confusing the QB. Ask Casey Keenum. The Cougar offense scored 14 points in the bowl game.
Is DeRuyter coming to Georgia? Better chance of that than Richt luring Kirby Smart back home.

Buck,
This DeRuyter guy actually sounds like a brilliant hire in the making. The Dawgs are losing a lot of talent at DT. Could be time for a switch to the 3-4. The only problem is, who will make plays at LB?
What are the odds DeRuyter will be granted an interview?
Heard you on 680 today. I agree with most of your thoughts on the situation. If Smart was in play, they wouldn't have gone after Chavis.
Kincade was talking about your Glaus jersey. What can Braves fans expect from him? And, will Atlanta be a contender for the NL East pennant?
Go Dawgs!

I wouldn't be so sure about Smart not coming. Below is from Tuesday...
Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart, the former Georgia defensive back, also spoke to reporters in California on Tuesday about the Georgia opening.
"I really haven't talked to Mark much," Smart told the Mobile (Ala.) Press-Register. "To say I said no to Mark, he has not offered me anything. That's not really accurate. To be honest, with this game coming up, I haven't even thought about it."
Alabama plays Texas today in Pasadena in the BCS title game, but Smart left open the possibility that he would listen to Georgia.
"You don't ever know what's going to happen, but I certainly am excited about the opportunity to be back at Alabama," Smart said. "We've got a lot of good players coming back."

Hey Buck,
If there was just a handful of seconds left on the clock and you had to choose a place kicker to attempt a game changing FG, would you rather have:
a) Rex Robinson
b) Kevin Butler
c) John Kasay
d) Hap Hines (Had to include him on the list. Grew up with the dude).
Go Dawgs!
Rob.

I'm skeptical of Defensive coaches at schools with running games as strong as Air Force's. I think their impressive stats are skewed by how well their offense controls the clock.
