'Dogs Offense: Things to Consider

There is a lot of talk about Georgia having to go with an inexperienced QB this season. Logan Gray has played just a little. Aaron Murray hasn't taken a snap yet. And the sky is falling, right? To borrow a phrase from Lee Corso, "Not so fast my friends."
Logan, Aaron or Zach will have some things working in their favor. All 3 have been around the program long enough to be completely comfortable with the offense. It's not like Bobo will have to cut back on gameplans because they are going with a QB that's not ready to handle it. This is Logan's 4th year at Georgia. When the season kicks off, Murray & Mettenberger will have been on campus for 20 months. They are comfortable with the system.
Another big deal is this: the QB will be surrounded by 10 experienced players. That's huge. The O-Line will be the best it's been in recent memory. The tight-end spot---a liability in recent years---will be a position of great depth. In fact, expect to see a lot of 2-TE sets. Getting Durham back at WR will provide a solid 3-WR set, with A.J. and Tav King. Chapas is a senior fullback. Ealey & Caleb are vets now.
It's not like Logan or Aaron will be distracted by getting other guys in the right place, or telling them what to do. They will be surrounded by a strong O-Line and a talented WR/RB corp. They can concentrate on their job.
But there is no question this unit has to take a big step forward in all areas, except pass protection ('Dogs were tops last season allowing only 12 sacks). Run it more consistently (the strength at TE should be a big help). Get more big plays out of the passing game. Score more TDs in the Red Zone. Protect the ball better. Better execution on 3rd down. Improve across the board.
On G-Day, I wouldn't expect to see Logan, Aaron or Zach to look great. The new 3-4 scheme will cause some moments of discomfort. But it's important for them to get out there with live bullets flying around and make some plays.
