Samuel Bumped Inside
Todd Grantham got a quick look at Richard Samuel playing outside linebacker and decided his skill set would be a better fit inside. There will be some who will hear this news and write the kid off as an impact player at Georgia, but that's just crazy. Grantham doesn't believe he can't play linebacker. He just thinks he can use his speed and coverage ability from the inside linebacker spot.
But now, that inside linebacker spot looks loaded. Gamble and Dowtin have the look of starters. Dent figures to be in the mix for playing time too. But Samuel will have plenty of time to shine. Nothing is set right now.
Richard's speed should serve him well inside, as he roams sideline to sideline in the run game. His cover ability will be a better fit inside too, as he chases TE's down the middle seam and RB's out in the flat. A lot of the time at outside backer it's about rushing off the edge, or settling out in the flat in zone coverage. The move makes sense.
Getting a lot of questions about Aaron Murray wearing the glove on his throwing hand. It's all about the grip. These gloves are thin enough to make it comfortable. And tacky enough to give you a strong grip on the ball. And at the end of the day, it doesn't matter. Just win, baby. Just win.
