Can Ogletree Earn Some PT?
One pup I'll be keeping an eye on this summer camp is freshman safety Alec Ogletree. This kid looks like the most talented freshman in the Bulldog class and the safety position is open for competition. One more thing: Coach Grantham says he'll play the "best players." The new DC isn't against playing a freshmen, if he earns the snaps.
Quick look at the starters heading into camp: Nick Williams is a converted LB and is physical against the run, but not exactly a cover guy. Bacarri Rambo is cut out of the same mold...tough, physical and doesn't mind the contact...but not considered a good cover guy. Jakar Hamilton appears to have a more versatile skill set.
Alec Ogletree's skill set in high school was impressive. He was a head hunter in the run game. And he made plays all over the field against the pass. His athleticism was extremely impressive. The kid was a star. Will that translate to big-time college football? We'll see. He'll need to avoid injury in camp obviously. But he has the skill to make an impact in year one. The safety spot is the last line of defense. They can save the day, with the big-play. The ball is in the air...can the safety go make a play on it? Or is the receiver going to catch it and make a move for the end zone? Ogeltree has the talent to go get it.
Keep an eye on this young pup. He's a player.
