Dogs 1st Scrimmage
Aaron Murray had some good moments in the 'Dogs first scrimmage. Hit A.J. a couple of times for big, TD plays. This gives you a clue of what to expect this season from the young QB. Georgia's offense is going to run it and that will set up some big-play opportunities, down the field, off the play-action pass. So, this is a season where I won't place too much focus on his pass completion percentage. It's just not that big of a deal.
Why? Well, the 'Dogs won't be asking Murray to carry the load. Doubt you'll see him throw it around 40 times, unless they get down early. They will look for explosion plays in the passing game. Run it, run it...play-action, deep shot. Hit a few of those and the scoreboard lights up. Aaron might have a lot of those 12-21 days, with 2 TDs and an INTC. I'd say anything over 50% will be acceptable, especially if he hits on 12-15 TDs. Those numbers will help the 'Dogs win, in his first season as the QB. Later in his career, they will probably be asking him to carry more of the load.
Did you see the name Ogletree under the interception catagory? He's a freshman, but he's also a playmaker. Grantham is working a 3-man rotation at safety (Rambo, Hamilton, Williams) right now, but he may have to find some P.T. for Ogletree.
Good news about Geathers too. He's fit and out to earn the nose job, which would free up Grantham to move Tyson outside to DE. That would be huge. And help the new 3-4 defense stop the run on 1st and 10.
Right now, the biggest concern has to be at CB. Branden Smith's spot is questionable. Who's the next man up? Commings? Stay tuned.
