Branden Smith Back at CB!

Grantham and the 'Dogs got some good news yesterday. Talented CB Branden Smith is back on the field today, after missing 8 practices with an academic issue (placement test score). This should be a big boost to the secondary. He can play. Branden has some serious ball skills.
In 2010, against all of these spread offenses, featuring 3-4-5 WRs, defenses must have 3-4 CBs who can cover. Let's see: Boykin, Smith, Cuff, Love and Commings. Georgia has 5 who are ready to play ball now. I rank them in that order.
Branden is one of the more talented players on the team. Last season, as a freshman he was just trying to get adjusted to big-time CF. This season, Smith is prepared to play ball. Coming out of high school, he was regarded as one of the fastest corners out there. You may have noticed him last sason, when Coach Bobo got him the ball on a couple reverses. Dude can fly. Smoked the Gamecocks for a 61 yard sprint to the end zone.
Boykin is the 3rd best CB in the SEC. Smith and Jordan Love are pushing for serious roles. Vance Cuff will benefit from that competition. Commings is a bigger, more physical CB. As a group, they've got a chance to be good.
Grantham will be playing a lot more man coverage this season. And there are some talented WRs out there in the SEC. Georgia needs Branden Smith to step up in his sophomore year. He's got the ball skills. Now it's time to match up.
