Studying Tom Brady & Matt Ryan

This morning rocked! Isn't that what the cool dudes are saying? Got to observe Tom Brady and Matt Ryan go about business this morning at Falcons practice. And it was impressive.
Brady hit Moss on a deep post pattern, on the Patriots 2nd play in the 7-on-7, 3rd & long drill. Tom hung it up with a tight spiral and Randy ran it down. A thing of beauty. Couple of plays later, on the other field, Matt hooked up with Roddy down the left sideline, for a deep TD toss. Awesome. That rocked!
Tom's 6'5" in cleats. That helps him have excellent vision obviously. But I was so impressed with how he sets up in the pocket and sticks the landing so to speak. You don't see Tom moving around in the pocket. He sets his feet and they stay there until he fires. Take a look at a lot of other QBs and they have happy feet. This allows Tom to stand tall in the pocket.
Spoke with Matt Ryan after practice for a few moments. I told him that Brady bragged on him a little during his media session after practice. Matt went, "Awe shucks" and smiled. Ryan mentioned how Tom "trusts the pocket like nobody else." Matt was impressed with the same two things. Pocket presence. Accuracy with the underneath stuff. Matt admitted that "everyone can throw it deep in this league."
Brady is coming off that knee injury, so standing tall like that is even more impressive.
This is a mutual respect club thing between these guys. Brady told the media he admired the job Matt did at B.C. But they never met until last year, when they spoke for a few minutes. Matt has studied Tom's work. But they are not buddies or anything. Thought it was funny, when the media dude asked Brady after practice if he's dropped some knowledge on young Matt.
Tom told us he's worked too hard learning the secret's of the position to just hand them out.
Young QBs like Matt Ryan study Brady and learn something. Trust the pocket and focus on coverage downfield. And work to fit the ball in tight spots underneath. Tom put on a clinic this morning. It was good to be there and see it.
