Zeier Was "The Man"

Here's a shout out to "E.Z." The Z-man is being inducted into Georgia's Ring of Honor. Congratulations to Eric on all that he accomplished during his Bulldog playing days. He deserves this honor.
Eric won me over, when he told Georgia Tech "no" during the recruiting process and announced that he was headed to Georgia. He went through a highly publicized recruiting process out of Marietta High and I remember being so proud he was going to be a Bulldog (even though my Valdosta buddy Greg Talley was already on campus).
If you follow Georgia football, you admire the big numbers Eric put up throwing the football. Zeier was the first Georgia QB to go over 3,000 yards and 20 touchdowns. He did that twice. That's setting the bar high, for the guys that came after him. He broke every record along the way and finished with 67 Georgia records and 18 SEC marks. He was Georgia's first 1st team All-American at QB in over 3 decades. Amazing stuff.
But I found the guy to be more impressive than the statistics. He was a winner. A team guy. A good dude.
After watching him play early in his career at Georgia. I went looking for him around McWhorter Hall after one the games, so I could meet him. Simply wanted to tell him how proud I was of his play and leadership. Found him around family and friends. Shook his hand. Told him those two things and we hung out for a minute. I've been pulling for him ever since.
Eric could obviously make all the throws a QB needs to make. Throw it with zip. Throw it with touch. Wing it short, intermediate and deep. He had pocket presence. He took shots and kept coming back unintimidated. But you could tell he was all about winning! That's the characteristic that impressed me the most about Eric Zeier. He wanted to win in the worst way.
Zeier is heading into Georgia's Ring of Honor...and that exactly where he belongs. Congratulations Eric. We are all proud of you.
And it's great to have you in the booth calling Bulldog games.
