What Did A.J. Green Know About That Bad Dude?
Did A.J. Green know Chris Hawkins was a cocaine runner? Of course not. Dudes like Hawkins are hiding a lot of things. A.J. knows he sold a game-worn jersey to the dude for a grand. And he probably knew he also had some agent connections. Might come in handy after the season kind of thing. That's what I believe the deal is.
But A.J. needs to learn a very important life lesson at this moment. Sharks like Hawkins are out there trying to get you. They want to make a buck off you. Sell you down the river. And you need to stay as far away from these guys as you can. He might have some glamorous stories about the South Beach fast lane, big-time athletes, agents, large money and all that...but in the end it's about him getting in your pocket.
A.J. Green will only come down this lucrative path one time in his life. He's got one shot to get it right. I hope this country boy from Summerville, South Carolina learns a life lesson from this experience. Right now, he can explain this off to NFL teams. I was ignorant. Didn't know what this guy was involved in. As far as I knew, he was a fast-talking runner for some agent. I'm clean. Always have been. Ask Coach Richt. Ask the folks back home. Talk to my teammates. And it's true. A.J. is a good dude.
Mel Kiper, Jr. has A.J. projected as a Top 5 pick in the NFL Draft. Eric Berry signed a 6-year, $60 million dollar deal with the Chiefs, as the 5th pick in the 2010 draft. So, Green has $60M-plus riding on this season. A.J. can't afford another screw-up. But he can use this as a lesson. Stay away from the scum. They are out there 24-7.
