Georgia Barely Average at Running Back Position
One of the big issues holding back the Georgia Offense is the RB position. Seriously. And we all thought that would be the strength of the team, coming into the season. Ealey & King...the mighty 1-2 punch. Can't stop them, can only hope to contain them, right? Wrong.
Knowshon Moreno would have had a career day against Arkansas. Musa would have gone for 175. Lattimore would have done the highlight reel thing. No telling what kind of numbers the Carver High RB Isaiah Crowell would have put up----Georgia needs this kid bad.
The first two games the O-Line had some issues run blocking, but they opened up some running lanes against Arkansas. Problem was: Ealey & Carlton Thomas were picking up the minimum amount of yards available. If there were 7 yards to get, before a tackler appeared, that's what they got. If the hole was open for 5 yards, that's what they picked up. At this level, you need RBs getting yards after contact (YAC). Good teams also have RBs that can make people miss. Ealey & Thomas were going down too easy. And nobody missed. That's really disappointing.
Ealey also appeared to miss some critical pass protection assignments. And that's unnacceptable. He almost got Murray killed.
As far as Caleb King goes...he has been a big tease so far. He shows glimpses of being the back they recruited him to be, but then he disappears. Right now, he can't stay on the field because of an ankle injury.
Looking for reasons why the 'Dogs offense is struggling to hit its stride and score points? Here is a big reason why. The 1-2 punch at RB has been a disappointment.
