Conversation With Mike Bobo

Spoke to Coach Bobo before practice today. It was encouraging to hear such conviction and energy. All the negativity and criticism doesn't have him down. In fact, he is oblivious to most of it. He was unaware that ESPN's Bob Griese was critical of his 3rd and 4 call late against Arkansas, saying that Mike had 4 receivers all running deep on vertical routes, which was not the case. Mike pointed out that it was a 4-WR route, with 2 running verticals and 2 on crossing routes at 6 yards. One of those underneath routes was adjusted by bump coverage, to a deeper route. And the short route, just beyond the first down stakes, was covered.
The criticism is just part of coaching, he explained.
I really like the fact he's not listening to the critics, or reading the critical comments. No time for that. Too busy working. Does he wish he had done a few things differently? Every game, win or lose. And I really respect the other thing he told me. He loves Georgia and he loves being a coach. Totally enjoys the teaching aspect of coaching and guiding the players through the good and the bad. Adversity has hit. And he has not flinched.
Coach Bobo spoke about how the players are fighting to get through the adversity. Still working hard.
The plan against Colorado is to get A.J. Green the ball early and often. Sounds like all 3 RBs will play. Sturdivant is coming on strong at LT. Mike says the running game is close to breaking through. Just need a spark. Maybe Caleb can give us that. He expects A.J. being back will help the run game too.
He talked about how impressed he is with Aaron Murray. Aaron's class schedule ends by 10:30 and he's in the QB meeting room by 11:00 breaking down film. Mike says he's committed to winning a championship at Georgia. We both agree that two of his most impressive characteristics are his composure and his ability to make plays. Both of those traits will help him in Boulder. I do know Aaron is getting good coaching. Just like Stafford. Just like Shockley. And just like David Greene.
