What Went Wrong In Boulder
The Caleb King fumble was a running play. It got blown up because the RT missed his block. Bad time for that. Let the DE inside and he got in Caleb's mug as he got the handoff. Good play call...bad execution. And it cost the 'Dogs the game. Walsh never got the shot to win it. Some thought the play call was a trick play: handoff to the RB, he tosses it back to the QB, and Murray throws it downfield. Not so. It was a run all the way.
A.J. Green was huge. Made plays. Beautiful TD catch, with the 1-hand job. And then, the post pattern TD was pretty too. But the cramps had A.J. on the sideline, in crunch time. That hurt. Make a bunch of plays early, and then disappear late. The guys look around for the star and he's not in the huddle. Not good.
The offense handed the defense a 10-point, 2nd half lead and they let it get away. Grantham must be steamed about that. 'Dogs take the 2nd half kick-off and go on a 9-play, 85 yard TD drive...capped off by a nice play-call and execution of a double-move by slot receiver Marlon Brown. Good call...just saying. Defense couldn't hold up.
Buffs got it and went 5-plays, 81 yards for a TD. Cuff got beat in coverage for a big play. Next series, Buffs go 5-plays, 67 yards for the go-ahead TD, after Cuff got penalized for running into the kicker (he slipped, which caused the contact). Suddenly, it's 29-27 Colorado. They cut through our defense like a hit knife through butter. Couldn't stop running water. Grantham's defense gave up 260 yards rushing. Can't win on the road performing like that.
What they do now? More on that later, but just to touch on that...I'd say the most important things are to work harder and stay together.
