Can Tech Deliver Big Performance?
Are the Jackets up to the challenge? QB Tevin Washington isn't Joshua Nesbitt, but Tech needs him to play big. Anthony Allen needs to deliver a big performance. And Tech's chances go up, if WR Stephen Hill can make a few big plays downfield. Those are 3 things that have to happen, if GT is to get the job done Saturday night in Athens. On defense, they need to slow down the 'Dogs run game AND controll A.J. Green. Can they do either of those things? And can they match-up with our special teams? Big question mark there.
Can you tell I like Georgia Tech? As in, I like'm to lose. Too many things have to happen for Tech to win. And Georgia is desperate for a win. Real desperate. Got to win to avoid a losing season and getting shut out of the bowl scene. This team is going to be fired up.
The one factor that could change the dynamics of this game is if Aaron Murray can't go. Seriously. Expect him to start, but what if he gets hit in the sternum in the 1st quarter and has to come out? Or takes another shot to his knee? Then, Hutson Mason is thrown into the mix. Because of his inexperience, Groh would come after him. A turnover or two could swing the balance.
A smart plan would be to protect Aaron with the play calls. Go heavy with the run game. Eliminate the QB on the run plays...boots, roll-outs. Max protect some. Remind him to get the ball out quickly from the pocket. Avoid as much contact as possible.
