How To Win Rivalry Games

Rivalry games always get the emotions running high. Coaches have formulated a meaningful pep talk prior to kickoff. Tough linemen beat up lockers and bust down the door. The sold-out crowd is all jacked up. It's easy to get fired up.
And it's easy to pick on the overaggressiveness. Defensive dudes react too quickly. D-Backs jump on the first move. That's why I like calling some play-action shots early. Throw some double-move routes too. Those guys that are jumping around, mouthing off prior to the game are susceptible to these type of plays. I always like to look around for this during warm-ups. Who's acting crazy? Are they on defense? Let's pick on them.
Anyway, my thoughts on this blog were regarding another aspect of these high intensity match-ups. How do you win these games? By making the plays that are there to be made. Sounds simple, uh? Sometimes not so much.
QB has to hit that open man. WR has to make that big catch, when he has the CB beat. RB can't allow that DL grab his shoe in the hole, when there is a 50 yard play to be made. Just make those plays that are there to be made. That could add up to 21 points. Miss on them...and you get zip.
Just watched Reggie Bush drop a Brees ball that would have been a TD. Saints had to settle for 3. That 4 point difference could get them beat.
