2011 Bulldog Offense
The 'Dogs have found them a winner at QB. Aaron Murray's success this season has been amazing. He's the top-rated young QB in CF, but his season (62%, 24 TD, 6 INTC) would be impressive for a junior or senior. Murray's the man for the next few years and we've got to build around him. By the way, Mike Bobo has done another excellent job coaching up his QB.
The Bulldogs lose their 2 top WRs. A.J. is 99% gone. And wouldn't you, after being rated as a Top 5 pick in the NFL Draft? Kris Durham exits. How do you replace those 2? Boise is facing the same issue, by the way.
The top 3 returning WRs appear to be solid. Tav King has proven to be a playmaker. And he needs to take his game to another level. I see Marlon Brown as the most important guy in the mix. It will be his 3rd year on campus, so he should be comfortable and ready to reach his potential, which is huge. Why didn't he make an impact this season? Well, he was behind A.J. From what I've observed, Wooten is a 3rd option and I like his ability to work the slot position, as a quick, shifty option. But beyond that...it's sketchy. Can Logan Gray emerge as a threat? Is Troupe a reliable option?
As far as the puppies go, the 'Dogs signed and redshirted Michael Bennett this year. Not sure about his potential. Lonnie Outlaw, Nick Marshall's go-to guy last season, is off to a JUCO and not in the fold yet.
The 2011 recruiting class includes Super 11 WR Chris Conley, Justin Scott-Wesley (rated as a 4-star), and Zach Witchett. I hear we are working on a few other WRs too. Should be an easy sell, with A.J. leaving and Aaron Murray throwing it around for 3 more years. More on that tomorrow.
At FB, got to replace Chapas. Alex Ogletree gets a shot at that.
On the O-Line, Coach Searels has to replace the right side, with Boling and Davis moving on. Kenarious Gates filled in nicely this season as a true freshman. Educated guess here is that he steps in at right guard. So, the big question is who steps in at right tackle? Big Austin Long sure looks good in uniform, but has yet to play. Brent Benedict redshirted with a knee injury this season, but it might be too soon for him. A.J. Harmon will be a junior and is probably the favorite right now. Finding a impact dude at RT is huge.
Even though the RB position appears set with Ealey and Caleb King back, it sure would be nice to see if Isaiah Crowell could come in a be a homerun threat as a freshman. He's a playmaker.
So, there you go. Need Marlon Brown to emerge and a RT to step up. Stay tuned.
