Critical Week In Recruiting For 'Dogs
The domino's start to fall quickly, beginning tomorrow in Valdosta. Super 11 TE Jay Rome and playmaker Malcolm Mitchell announce their decisions. Georgia could get both. Rome looks like the next outstanding TE at Georgia and Mitchell is capable of returning kicks immediately. Malcolm has the talent to play WR or CB. Both visited Alabama last weekend, but left without a VC.
Super 11 DE Ray Drew will be making the short drive over from Thomasville to see Rome and Mitchell commit. That sound like good news to me. Drew is uncommitted, but reportedly has already decided on a college. Could that be Georgia? And if Rome and Mitchell are Georgia bound...and Drew is coming to be apart of their day...then, appearances say Drew is coming too. Right?
Plus, Chip Towers was reporting this week that Drew spent last weekend in Miami with JUCO NT John Jenkins. Chip says that Drew was in Jenkins ear the entire weekend about playing with him. Could Drew have been selling Georgia hard?
And Jenkins visits Georgia this weekend.
The other top guy out there is Columbus/Carver RB Isaiah Crowell. 'Dogs visited Isaiah yesterday and will ahve him on campus this weekend. Good to see that Richt can play the recruiting game, by offering Crowell best buddy a scholarship. That can't hurt. Crowell's got to know that at Georgia he can play immediately. He'd have to wait at Alabama. Hope that favors Georgia.
It could be a mirage, but right now it's looking like Richt's staff could finish up strong and get Rome, Mitchell, Drew, Jenkins and Crowell. And that would be huge.
The "Negative Dogs" are probably thinking something like this: "We've had top recruits before, but didn't coach them up." To which I reply: Would you rather NOT sign the best players? Come on, if these guys come to Georgia, Richt and his staff have done an oustanding job...especially with all the negativity out there.
