Drew Joins the Bulldog "Dream Team"
It'll be official next Wednesday, when he signs the paperwork, but Ray Drew is coming to Georgia. Big news. And it's huge for Georgia. Drew is a Top-10 rated player nationally. He's the top-rated player in the state of Georgia. He also plays an impact position, where the 'Dogs are desperate for help. Rivals.com has Drew the top-rated weakside DE nationally.
The Thomasville native (he played for Thomas Co. Central) has had some fun leading up to this announcement. Ray has been sending out mixed signals via facebook and twitter. And that has certainly kept Georgia fans on the edge of their seat, heading into today's announcement. But behind the scenes, word had it that Drew has been busy for weeks recruiting for the Bulldogs. All signs pointed towards him putting on the Georgia hat today.
This guy is physically mature, at 6'5", 250. And he appears mature beyond his years. The guess here says that Ray Drew plays immediately. Look for him to be mixing it up against Boise State in the opener. Expect to see him tackling Marcus Lattimore in game two against South Carolina. Start at DE? We'll see. Get playing time? Pencil that in.
The D-Line position group needs a big boost. Add Ray Drew and hopefully, John Jenkins...that changes things dramatically. That would allow DeAngelo Tyson to slide out to DE. Drew talked about playing OLB just moments ago, and he detailed how that translates into putting his hand on the ground in a 4-3 look over 60% of the time.
Again, Mike Bobo has done a great job in south Georgia. The guy can coach QBs and he can recruit! And it was nice of David Pollack and Randall Godfrey to be there for Drew today. It's a great day for the 'Dogs.
