No Rest For The Dawgs
Even though it's officially the off-season, the 'Dogs are staying busy. Richt went from signing day to searching for new assistant coaches. Then, UGA VIII passed away. And then, Ealey messed up. Guess there are no days off, when you run the football program.
EALEY GETS SUSPENDED: Bet the young man felt dissed, with the well-publicized recruitment of Isaiah Crowell. Probably felt no love. At the same time, he's getting pushed hard in the strength program. But the real problem is his reluctance to go "All In." Reports of missed classes, tutoring and workout sessions continue to swirl. This is about being consistent, which he and Caleb King have been unable to do. Again, he needs to accept responsibility and get to work. Transferring to Georgia Southern is the easy way out.
NEW OL COACH CHECKS IN: Will Friend is on campus and has reached out to the OL signees. By now, he's studied the depth chart and realizes that he's got some major work to get done, on the right side. Coach Friend better convince Justin Anderson his best shot at starting is at right tackle. That's a huge hole that has to be filled. Those freshmen aren't ready for that challenge.
DREW "A PROJECT": Just when you thought Ray Drew was an impact guy, this comes out. Todd Holcomb, publisher of the High School Football Daily, considers Drew a "project." Didn't he have 2 1/2 sacks in the Army All-American Game? And that's against the top players in the nation. Guess it's hard to impress some folks. Maybe this motivates him a little.
BIG JENKINS #6: JUCO DT John Jenkins is going to wear #6. Number six? He's a 340 pound nose tackle. Shouldn't he be #99? Forget about it. Who cares? Give him any number he wants and plug him in. Welcome to Athens, big fella.
WHO WILL RICHT & GRANTHAM HIRE TO REPLACE BELIN? Kevin Greene? Probably not. But after pushing Mac McWhorter & Hugh Nall for the OL job, I'm reluctant to step out and recommend. Stay tuned.
