Coach Friend Needs Right Tackle
New O-Line Coach Will Friend knows there is a lot of work to get done this spring. He's got to find 2-3 players to plug in. And the right side has to be constructed. Right guard and right tackle are open to competition. And he needs to find a dependable, versatile back-up player he can count on.
Kenarious Gates gets the first look at right guard, after getting some playing there last season as a freshman. Sophomore Dallas Lee is in the mix.
Right tackle is the big concern. Could it be left guard Cordy Glenn moves over? Will Justin Anderson take the opportunity to move back over from nose to compete for the job? Is redshirt freshman Brent Benedict ready to win the job, coming off a knee injury? Sure are a lot of questions to be answered. Kolton Houston is another guy in the mix. And is Austin Long's back injury healed enough for him to be a real candidate at RT?
Doubt any of the freshmen are ready yet. Watts Danzler and Xzavier Ward are probably looking at redshirt years. But I've had a lot of trusted sources telling me Ward is going to be a star.
I've often wondered about Kwame Geathers situation. Would he rather back-up John Jenkins at nose or start at RT?
Stay tuned.
