Grantham Hires His LB Coach
Coach Grantham worked with longtime NFL defensive assistant Tom Olivadotti back in 2004, with the Houston Texans. And now he and Richt have hired his son. Kirk Olivadotti shows up at Georgia, after 11 years on the Washington Redskins staff. And his resume' certainly looks impressive.
Olivadotti spent the last 3 years as the Redskins LB coach. And he's coached alongside some of the best defensive minds in football: Greg Blache, Ray Rhoades, Marvin Lewis and Gregg Williams. Bet Richt and McGarity were impressed when Grantham tossed down this guy's resume'.
So, the Georgia coaching staff is back to being whole. Got a new O-Line coach and a new LB coach. Just in time to get focused on spring practice. The two new additions appear to be a good mix. Will Friend is a college guy, with ties to the southeast. Olivadotti is an NFL guy, with numerous ties to the NFL.
Grantham and Olivadotti have a lot of work to get done with this new group of LBs. The D-Line appears set, with Jenkins inserted at nose and Tyson sliding outside to DE. The secondary is set with Boykin, Smith, Commings, Rambo and Ogletree coming back. Now it's time to "coach up" the LB group.
Jarvis Jones and Richard Samuel are guys looking to step in and make an impact. Maybe 1 or 2 of these freshmen (Turene, Wilson and Herrera) can play. Got to get Washington, Robinson, Vasser and Gilliard playing ball.
This LB group's performance will go a long way in deciding how much this defense improves. The level of play has got to go up. 'Dogs allowed 25 points a game last season. The top SEC defenses gave up less than 20.
