Hope A.J. Blows Bengals Interview
A.J. Green is impressing NFL scouts at this week's scouting combine. Man, even NFL Network's Mike Mayock is impressed and that is rare for a WR slotted to go in the Top 5. I just pray that A.J. doesn't end up with the Bengals at #4. That would be terrible for his career. Seriously.
If I were advising Green, I would tell him to blow the Bengals interview. Tell them he won't sign. Look them in the eye and say, "I'll retire, before I play for your organization." Pollack told me this wouldn't be a bad idea.
The Bengals have ruined many a career.
You only go down this path once in a lifetime. A.J. needs to play hardball. The Manning's did it. It's this simple: I won't play for you. Don't take me. I won't sign.
The Broncos sit at #2 and they are desperate for WR help. Best case scenario, Fairley falls...and the Broncos take A.J. over Patrick Peterson. Or maybe Carolina, who needs the next WR to take over for an aging Steve Smith, takes Green with the top pick.
The 2nd WR slotted to go is Alabama's Julio Jones. A.J. should be jealous...Julio could end up going to the Texans at #11, where he'd be opposite Andre Johnson, with Schaub throwing him the ball, or to the Rams at #14, where he would be Sam Bradford's go-to-guy. Jones would get less up-front money, but he'd be in a place where he could succeed and have a long, productive career.
If Green goes to the Bengals at #4, here's how it would play out: there would be a long hold-out, because the Bengals are the cheapest team in the NFL, so A.J. would miss camp. Then, even though he would have some big cash in the bank, he would spend his career frustrated, because they would be losing all the time.
Please, A.J.; Set the Bengals straight this week at the combine.
