Bobo To Tweak Dogs Offense?
Does Bobo change up the offense this year? Well, yeah. All good college, offensive coaches have to alter strategy year-to-year...because of the constant change of personnel.
I look at Coach Bobo's personnel this spring and can see him going with less multi-receiver sets, and more 2-TE sets. More sets that are conducive to running it. Controlling the ball. Big play-action package. And this is dictated by this year's personnel.
'Dogs are thin at WR. Tav King, Marlon Brown and Rantavious Wooten look like a capable group. But somebody else needs to step up, if Bobo is going to be able to go 4-wide.
So, I believe Mike will feature the tight-end packages and Orson Charles this season. TE is the deepest position group on the team. Aron White gets one last ride. Arthur Lynch can play physical. Jay Rome arrives this summer. Figgins at fullback adds another physical dimension to a 2-or-3 TE set.
And I expect Orson to be Murray's "go-to receiver" . They've got great chemistry, having played together since high school. I look at Orson as a "big receiver" anyway. A guy that can work out of the slot, or "flexed." Run those inside routes and be tough enough to hold on to it. Run the seam route downfield for the big-play. Bet Orson doubles his catches (26) from last season. He's going fill some of the A.J. Green void. Orson Charles is ready for a monster season.
The personnel points to a more controlled attack. Pound it on 1st and 10. Play-action off that. Feature an underneath-to-intermediate passing game, featuring some big targets in Orson, Aron and Marlon.
What this group needs is a little sizzle. Maybe Crowell brings some of that. Or Tavarres King delivers big. Wooten and Thomas have some quickness, I'd be nice to get some sizzle out of them. Guys that could give us plays in open space.
Last season, the 'Dogs Offense had a run-pass ratio of 56%-44%. Could see that trending down to 60%-40% this season.
