Richt Cuts Ealey Loose
Washaun Ealey is officially out of the mix at Georgia. His 'Dog days are done. So, you can scratch out his name on the depth chart at running back.
How does it read right now? 1- Caleb King, 2- Ken Malcome, 3- Carlton Thomas. Much-hyped Isaiah Crowell arrives this summer with an opportunity to make a big splash.
Ealey lived that dream too. He arrived from Stillmore in 2009 and made some noise as a freshman. At the end of the season, he was running on the Gators, Auburn and Tech. The future appeared bright. But his arrest for driving with a suspended license resulted in being suspended for the opener. Then, he suddenly developed a bad habit of fumbling. Things went downhill in a hurry. Obviously, he didn't handle adversity well. As Chip Towers reported today, he is currently academically eligible, as he transfers out of the program.
You're either in or you are out. Washaun just didn't seem committed to the program anymore. The well-publicized recruitiment of Crowell probably made a bad situation worse for Ealey. So, he's out.
The biggest problem? A bad attitude. And that can be the downfall of any outstanding athlete, in a team sport. Whispers of a poor work ethic surrounded Ealey, during the off-season strength and conditioning program. He would skip out on reps. In the past, he got away with that. Under Coach T, that didn't play. Again, either you're all in, or you're out.
Washaun wants to be the "featured" back, not share time with the other backs. Say what? Don't you have to earn that title? Those things aren't just handed out. Another example of a guy that has his priorities all messed up.
You'll probably hear about a big transfer to USC or Oklahoma, before he eventually resurfaces at Georgia Southern or Valdosta State.
In a strange twist, his departure opens up a possible opportunity for his cousin at RB. Brandon Harton ripped off a 65 yard TD sprint against Grantham's #1 defense in one of the spring scrimmages. Harton, a walk-on from Tattnal Co. HS, now moves up a notch, in a thin Bulldog RB position group.
