'Dogs Lose Harmon, Thin on O-Line
A.J. Harmon, who was penciled in as the starter at right OT, is transferring. That is a direct hit on the 'Dogs O-Line depth, which was already thin at tackle. Big Justin Anderson is penciled in as the starter at right tackle now. So, don't panic.
It'll be time to panic, if Anderson goes down hurt...again.
If that happens...Kenarious Gates would slide out from guard and Kolton Houston would be inserted inside. And beyond that? It's scary.
Georgia signed two 5-star rated OTs recently, but Austin Long and Brent Benedict have suffered through some injury issues. Long has a back and shoulder problem. Benedict is suffering through a knee issue. Both were thought of as future starters, when they signed. Now you have to wonder what their futures hold? Especially in 2011.
To expect one of the tackles signed this past February to step in and contribute is expecting too much. The jump from high school ball to major college football in the trenches is huge. The play is far more physical. So, I wouldn't count on Dantzler, DeBell or Ward being able to help.
What were the "personal reasons" for Harmon exiting? He has been academically challenged for over 6 months now. He was inelgible for the Liberty Bowl. Take a guess.
Right now, the spotlight shines brightly on senior Justin Anderson. It's his job. He's waited for years. He's played on both sides of the ball. Probably wondered if his time would come. Well, here it is. Time to shine.
