Brantley Ready To Go?
Coach Muschamp and his staff believe John Brantley will be ready to go Saturday. He'll tape it up tight. And Charlie will have him throwing it from the pocket. That gives the Gators their best shot at winning. The two freshmen aren't ready to win in the SEC yet. This is John's last shot. He's a captain. And he's going to be tough and go out there, with less than his best.
Think about it. He hasn't played in a month. His conditioning has taken a step back. He's been treating a high ankle sprain...how much running has he been able to do? Plus, his timing has to be a little rusty. But no time to worry about that. Got to go.
So, Grantham probably immediately starts thinking about how to get pressure on him. Brantley is thinking about how to get rid of the ball quickly. Grantham has hesitated to move his corners up and play pressure coverage. So, Weis can't expect to have John throw a bunch of quick stuff against that. Boykin and Smith will be all over that.
Commings plays a large role too. With Brantley, the Gators will be pass first. And Commings is a better cover guy at safety, than Rambo or Shawn Williams.
Weis will also mix it up with Trey Burton taking some snaps in the "Wild Gator."
