Crowell To Join 1,000 Yard Club?
Isaiah Crowell needs 179 yards to join Georgia's exclusive "1,000 Yard Club." And the way Kentucky's defense plays the run, Isaiah might gain entrance this Saturday afternoon.
The members of the club are impressive: Moreno, Musa, Hearst, Hampton, Worley, Herschel, McClendon McLee and Frank Sinkwich. Crowell would be the 10th member and only the 2nd Bulldog RB to reach 1,000 yards as a true freshman. Herschel was the first. Moreno did it as a redshirt freshman.
The most surprising aspect of Crowell's freshman season has been the lack of a signature, explosive sprint. His longest run has been 29 yards. All of the other top SEC RBs have busted long ones. Trent Richardson took one 76 yards. Dyer had a 55 yard sprint. Stacy went 77 yards. Ballard 66. Demps 84. Rainey 47. Lacy took one 67. Dennis Johnson has a 71 yard run.
Isaiah has that big-play skill set. He can take it to the house, but we just haven't seen it yet. Bet he rocks the house against Kentucky. Busts a long one. Maybe two. And that 1,000 yard mark comes easy.
He was late to the practice field on Tuesday, which got the reporters blogging quickly. As it turns out, Isaiah was getting extra treatment on a sore knee. Wednesday was a light work day. Sounds like Crowell will be fresh against the 'Cats.
Don't know about you, but I'm expecting a big day for the freshman. And I see him as being the key to finishing off GT, and then taking on one of those bullies from the west, in the title game. The 'Dogs need Crowell to finish strong. And if the Auburn game is any indication, he's ready to rumble.
