Marshall Coming to Georgia
The kid from Raleigh had Georgia fans cheering yesterday. I witnessed it at work, during our Buck & Kincade Show at 680 The Fan. At 2:30, while we were still on the air, a group gathered around the studio for the big announcement. Our producers had Scout.Com pulled up the internet.
It had been an interesting week. Justin Beiber was in recording some Christmas promo's on Monday, for Cumulus (our parent company). And that was wild and crazy. Falcons WRs Roddy White and Harry Douglas stopped by earlier yesterday, to promote their upcoming Christmas event for the needy. Both of these turned out to be popular photo opps.
Didn't observe any loud cheering, until Keith Marshall stepped to the podium and announced he was going to Georgia. Adam Gillespie, a valuable 680 employee and loyal Bulldog fan, led the cheers. He raised both arms and shouted out, "Yes!" Others clapped cheered around him. Then, it was back to work.
I would have loved to have heard the recruiting pitch from Coach Richt. Mark and some of his staff were in to see Marshall on Sunday, the day after the SEC Title Game loss. Bet it was along the lines of something like this: "We need you." I seriously doubt Coach Richt criticized Isaiah Crowell in front of Marshall and his family, but I bet he did hit on the lack of depth and the opportunity to play.
Clemson visited Keith the following day, but must not have made a lasting impression.
Keith Marshall plans to enroll in January. It'll be intersting to see how Isaiah Crowell handles his arrival. In a perfect world, they become a 1-2 punch and coexist. If not, Marshall develops into the go-to guy.
The refreshing part of this story is this: Keith Marshall appears to be a very mature young man, who has thrived in the classroom. He's an A student. Maybe he breaks the trend. Caleb King, Washaun Ealey and Isaiah have had some issues that held them back. Maybe this young man avoids that.

I checked out all the talk about Marshall on the web. The best news is his parents Warren and Denise. Both are Jame Madison Univ grads. His dad still holds the rushing records there. Better than that, hi dad is the owner of a realestate business in Raleigh and his mom is an executive manager for BCBS of NC. Strong parenting is going to pay off for Keith and for the DawgNation.
