Better Respect The Spartans
Got a bad feeling about this one. Sure hope the 'Dogs are motivated to beat a tough opponent in Michigan State, because I believe the Spartans are a team on a mission.
The Spartans senior class is the winningest in Michigan State history (36 wins) and that spans a proud 115 years. But they have not won a bowl game. I'm sure they remember losing to Georgia a few years ago in Orlando. And they definitely have a chip on their shoulder about last year's bowl loss to Alabama. The Tide rolled them 49-7. Ouch. That one hurt.
If you're thinking we'll give them the same treatment...consider this.
Alabama physically manhandled them. Pounded them with the downhill running game. Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram ran over them. Alabama ran for a record 5 TDs. This 'Dogs team doesn't play that style of football. The 'Dogs don't have a physical runner.
On defense, Alabama stuffed the MSU run (RB Edwin Baker had 14 yards on 12 carries) and then, pressured QB Kirk Cousins (sacked him 4 times). That's total domination. Grantham's defense could do similar work, but would be hard-pressed to match that performance.
Just saying...don't expect a blowout. Michigan State is better than they were a year ago. And they are MOTIVATED. I wonder about us.
